Vox Pop-Campaign-End Violence Women&Girls
Greeting! Lady and Gentleman,
Every year from November 25, to December 10, is a campaign to eliminate violence against women and girls. I am here to ask our fellow Cambodians what they know about impacts of violence against women and girls on family and society andwhat they can do to stop it.
Man 1: Violence against women and girls can take place in two different forms: physically and mentally. Physically, it involves the use of force whereas mentally it involves the use of words or gestures that hurt others.
Girl 1: What I have seen, most of the times when I visit my hometown, a drunken man beats his wife with wooden stick, slaps his children on their faces, curses them with swear words…
Man 2: Violence against women and girls cause so much trouble to family and society. For family, if you commit violence against your wife or other family members, you lose your value, time, and you cause troubles for the victims’ mental health. I am a youth, I can join to eliminate violence against women and girls by providing education and prevention strategy. I also would like to urge all NGOs and relevant stakeholders join together to take action on elimination all forms of violence.
Old woman: We should disseminate information and follow up. We ask men who committed violence to receive relevant knowledge so that they could understand their fault and stop violence. Dissemination of relevant information and laws is significant to eliminate violence. So far, I’ve noticed that it’s hard to engage men to participate. It’s easier to engage victims than the perpetrators.
Monk: Violence against women and girls can cause a breakup in a family, children become helpless, lots of negative impacts on children. So please do not use violence to solve problem in your family. Use that time and energy to work together to generate income, help your family and our country.
Youth group: Join together to eliminate violence against women and girls!
